I'm not sure about welbutrin but I've been taking zoloft (also medication for anxiety) and when I got pregnant my dr told me it was ok to take it. So I think you should def talk to your dr.
But if you have anxiety disorder I recomend that you take medication (or counseling) for it because having anxiety is hard enough...imagine having anxiety and being pregnant at the same time. It wouldn't be good for your baby or your health. I'm so glad that my ansxiety is under control by my med. because being pregnant already makes you anxious and moody.
Hope you find your solution and good luck!

Wellbutrin is pregnancy category B (at least according to MOST of the info I can find). Pregnancy category B basically means that tests in animals have not shown a problem and there have been no reported problems in pregnant humans or babies but no actual studies have been conducted on the effects of the drug on humans during pregnancy.

The best source of information on drug use (prescription or otherwise) during pregnancy and lactation is Motherisk.org part of Sick Kids Hospital. It is all they do. While it is a long distance call for most people (individuals calling regarding alcohol, illegal drug, HIV and nausea have 1-800 numbers provided) if you dial a 10-10 long distance plan it will cost you less than $2 to speak to a qualified professional who is up to date on all the current info and can advise you on which drugs and how much are safest given your medical history. They are much more knowledgeable than most doctors or OBs

Motherisk's Home Line - (416) 813-6780 - for information about the risk or safety of prescription and over-the-counter drugs, herbal products, chemicals, x-rays, chronic disease and infections during pregnancy.

These Helplines are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST

The other excellent source of information on drug safety is your local pharmacist. Drugs are all they do and they really do keep up to date (most of them). They too know more than most doctors. And best of all their advice is free! Pharmacists really deserve more respect, they are not just pill counters they are highly qualified specialists.

I was on Lexapro and my doctor said I could continue taking it during the first trimester, but not the second. I would see what your doctor says, different medicine work different.

I choose not to continue the medicine and did feel okay, no major attacks or anything. I have also stop taking it completely (after first pregnancy and throughout this pregnancy) and I have actually felt better off the medication and dealing with the anxeity myself.

Try the following links

Pregnancy_Center/AskAnExpert_Pregnancy_medicines.htm

www.mayoclinic.com/health/antidepressants/DN00007

www.womensmentalhealth.org/topics/pregnancy_auq.html

www.healthsquare.com/newrx/wel1488.htm

www.pregnancyanddepression.com/

I HIGHLY recommend going to Mothering.com and using their search box for antidepressants. A LOT of good info here with no chance of bias from drug company $$$$$. I can't vouch for the independence of the other websites, but this one is definitely NOT biased by advertising $$.

Other than that, best of luck during your pregnancy. One more thing, did you doctor tell you that many mothers report a significant decrease in depression symptoms during pregnancy?

Yes. You can take it, but only under the direction of your doctor. Wellbutrin has a Pregnancy Category B. That means:
Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies which have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.

If you must have it, wellbutrin is probably one of the safest, although it can cause you to go into seizures (not good if you are pregnant).

Talk to your OB and see what he/she says. There may be something else you can take instead of these chemical altering drugs.

You should always ask your doctor before talking ANYTHING. When your pregnant you are limited to what you take. I got really sick when I was pregnant and I wasn't allowed to take anything too strong. I had to just suffer through it.
