You are preparing reagents for your dideoxy sequencing project. You want to make a stock solution of ddGTP (514.93 g/mol). How much ddGTP will you need to weigh out to make 1000µl of a 100mM stock?

a.5.15x10-1 grams

b.5.15x10-3 grams

c.5.15x100 milligrams

d.5.15x104 micrograms

You can attack this several ways, but let's use familiar units.

1000uL = 1mL = 0.001 L

100mM = 0.1M

So (0.1M)(0.001L) = 0.0001moles X 514.93 g/mole = 0.0515g

0.0515g = 5.15 x 10^-2 g so answers a,b are out

0.0515g = 51.5mg = 5.15 x 10^1 milligrams so c is out

0.0515g = 51.5mg = 51500ug = 5.15 x 10^4 micrograms Yahoo!

Check my math, I did this pretty fast.
