I was shocked to find out how complicated the whole process was after reading this article. I'm not sure why it's such a big deal since it's not really hurting anything, but I was curious how others feel.

Do You think it is ok for a man to take his wifes last name instead? And Why?

Absolutely a man should be allowed to take his wife's name. Equality of the sexes. It is an archaic custom that women take the man's name, going back to when women were considered property.

Traditionally speaking without reading an article, the woman usually takes the mans last name instead of the other way around, because if the couple have a son the man has a son to pass on his last name to. It has always been this way since marriage started, it will always be this way until tradition changes. Of course in this society today alot of things have changed from tradition. If the man decides however to take his wifes last name then that is his personal choice. it is about right or wrong, it is about choice

I will more than likely change my name back to my maiden name, im divorcing at the moment. However, i have three kids with my husband and even my solicitor has asked me to consider carefully whether to change it or not. It's better for the kids if I dont, and a lot of hassle changing all my ID again. Let me make it clear, unfortunatley, I cant stand the sight of my ex, will never spaek to him again, (he is highly abusive), so there is no jesture on my part that I still have an emotional attachment to the surname. I do however have a right to choose. It is MY NAME after all. Ive been known by this name as long as ive been known by my maiden name.

The process should be as easy as a woman taking her husband's name. A man should be able to take his wife's name and there shouldn't have to be an explanation if that is what they choose! Why does a wife take her husband's name? Some couples like hyphenation both of their last names as a show of the union without losing their individuality. It all comes down to personal preference.

If he really wants to why not, but I think the best thing is for neither side to take any name. My wife still has her last name, and I don't see what the point is for her to change it to mine, I mean who the hell am I? It seems like a real 1800's type tradition to me, and since I don't feel there is any good reason for my wife changing her last name, as well as paying lots of money so she can replace all of her ID, we never got it changed
