I love good sci-fi movies but as a consiquence I hate most Sci-fi...so much sci-fi out there is truly crap and it hurts my head to watch it....examples of good stuff...the original Alien, Gataca, Blade runner, Vanilla Sky, Virtuosity, 2001, Terminator and even old stuff like Forbiden planet, or the day the earth stood still.... some example of bad stuff all present day star trek, MIB, ghost busters, and far too many examples to list...Does anyone else feel this way and if you have the same taste can you recommend anything different that may be hiding out at the block buster..I just stumbled across Gataca and it was great a movie... that makes you think...like Blade runner...some of the effects were hokey but the story was awesome...Suggetions welcome...

sorry hated the x-men..not as much scifi to me as a comic book fantasy albeit with scifi effects and a crap plot.

soylen green was good..it smacked of a little too much "late great planet earth...domsdayism" and the planet of the apes was actually a drawn out anti-racism public service annoncement...Quite condensending and the story has been told a million times when fair and equally minded star fleet commanders settle the inter species squabbles of orks and dorks or is it klingons and borgs...

serenity... infinate power...children of men?
I'll have to check them out...keep em comming I am starving for good scifi...I miss Issiac asimov and the old arthur c clark stuff I'd like to see more in the movies...I robot was pretty good....Doom was the same old plot mutant bad...kill mutant...the end....I don't mean to offend those movies you all love but I am just picky because I really love good scifi and I appreciate your suggestions...keep em comming...thanks

I agree with you, I hesitate to watch much scifi because so much of it is so disappointing.
Firefly the series and Serenity the movie that came after are outstanding. The new Battlestar Galactica was surprisingly good.

Have you seen Soylent Green? It is an old movie, but I like it. Another old one I like is Anna to the Infinite Power.
How about the original Planet of the Apes series? I like the Torchwood which is a Doctor Who spin-off, but they don't go into the past-well, just in one episode.
The fact is that Sci-fi is about ideas. Often I have seen a great idea, executed super sloppy. You end up rewriting the story in your head. That is probably why so many sci-fi fans, have web site where they written there on Star Trek episode, or something like that.
I hope you find something you like, if not, you're just going to have to sit and write it yourself like the rest of us geeks.
