It's a coolant leak, check coolant level. You've probably been adding coolant the past year. This should have been a red flag that SOMETHING WAS WRONG.

Anti-freeze has a sweet smell, but I never thought it smelled like waffles...
You likely have a small leak in your heater core. Check the carpet in the passenger's foot well. If it is damp or wet, you have a good size leak, and need to replace the heater core. If there is no moisture, only the smell of anti-freeze, you may be able to get by with a bottle of Barr's Leak, added to the radiator. This can be purchased at any autoparts store or WalMart. Follow the directions on the bottle, and in addition, make sure your heater is running full blast the entire time. This should seal any small leak in the heater system.

That is because you went to a waffle house and dropped some waffles in the air vent. The only real fix is to sell the car and get a new one. I'd recommend a space ship so that you can excape the planet when the aliens invade.

Husband says your heater core is bad. He has been a mechanic for over 30 years. Core part is around $40 he thinks, but labor is expensive as it is hard to install. If it is the heater core, and it is not fixed, it will start leaking water inside your car and blowing steam into your car also.

It may be the sweet smell of anti-freeze, (if it's hazardous I can say every schoolbus I ever drove smells the same way), because you don't use the heat system they dry out and then they leak, you need to watch your collant levels and notice if your car is dripping when parked. Because of the sweet taste of the methyl alcohol animals will lick it up and die of nervous system poisoning. (This is why people who drive school bus all their lives in cold climates start to act a little odd).

Wild shot, in spite of the shown fact that it quite is the A/C grasp. I had one burn up while the compressor seized and it smelled like cakes - actual tale! it quite is not tricky to examine. Run the A/C or defroster for a minute or 2 and touch a moist paper towel to the edge of the compressor grasp. If it sizzles the compressor grasp is the resource of the scent. of direction, that should in all danger propose the compressor is seized. if so you does no longer have A/C and ought to unplug the compressor to end the burn.
