Why can't memorex cd's be read through a regular cd player?

I've saved some audio songs on the cd, and now it won't play on my cd player. But when I purchased them at Circuit City, the guy who was helping me said that I can save any audio on it and play it on a radio or a regular cd player.

How did you save them? as mp3 files? If so, does your CD player have the ability to play mp3 files? Not all CD players can play mp3 files. If you have a CD player that does not have the ability to play mp3 files then you will need to convert the files into a format that the CD player can read.
