the batteries are going dead. try changing them

If it turns on by itself without you pressing the remote then you may have a short or somehow accidentally hotwired the fan by having two wires touching each other.

Try removing the batteries from the controller and reinstall them. If this doesn't help it may be the switch in the fan.

maybe someones is sitting on it or its under the couch cusion
