depends. It's always a good rule to follow though. If you can, give it. If you're going to want to use them as a reference on down the line, then you will want to be on good terms with them, which means a two week notice, or a one week notice is called for. If you don't care about them, if you're young and this is a stupid petty job, then just quit if you want.

You do not have to give notice. The two week period is to allow the employer time to find a replacement. If you are concerned about possible letter of reference.
If the job is bad, with problems. and you do not need the reference you can quit without notice.
If you have just found another job, remember new employer will look at it like this. you didnt give last employer notice , guess you want give me notice. 2 weeks is just average, try to give some notice. other than "heres your notice , i quit"

It all depends on your employer. Some employers require a 1-2 week notice in order to receive some benefits you have earned. These benefits could be things like vacation, sick leave, and things like that. There is no law that says you have to give them notice, but if you quit with out notice, I wouldn't use that employer as a reference for another job.

no it isn't necessary but it looks good on you and it gives the company you are leaving an oppourtunity to resolve any problems i.e pay raises... that they can to try and keep you working for them. Businesses don't want to have to train a new person for your job because you already know it, they will more than likely offer you more money or benefits. It also gives them a chance to find your replacement and let you train them.

It depends on where you live/work. In my state, employment is considered "at will." That means you can quit at any time for any reason (or no reason at all). You can also be terminated by your employer at any time for any reason (or no reason at all).
It is considered common courtesy/proper etiquette for employees to provide two weeks notice so that your position may be filled and your replacement trained and ready to work upon your departure.
Also, if you signed an employment agreement that requires you to provide an employer with two weeks notice before leaving, you may be bound by that agreement.

No. I have had such horrible situations that it is not necessary but more professional. I had a place run out of money and not want to pay me. So bye bye. another had a check bonce. I had one want me to give notice lasting six months..as an "act of love" two weeks is the best thing but is the organization is going to take that two weeks to be abusive.........forget it.

it depends on the job, some will require that notice in order to qualify for a reference/unused vacation/eligibility for rehire, etc. but it is the commonly accepted respectable thing to do. Quitting without notice is kind of tacky and unprofessional, unless there are certain circumstances beyond your control.

Yes. If you would like to be eligible for rehire or have a favorable employment reference, I would advise giving a two-week notice.
