She should go to the hospital if her water breaks or if she is having contractions 2-3 minutes apart. If they are farther apart than that, then by all means tell her to eat. Once she gets to the hospital she will not be able to eat and that's really a miserable situation. You get to suck on ice! Yippee!

A little word of advice from experience. I had the epidural and was pushing for 2 hours. I still threw up even though I didn't have anything to eat. It was mostly ice/water, but just to say...your stomach still gets queezy in those final moments. After 24 hours of labor and nothing to eat since the day before, you get really weak.

At this stage you should take her to the labour ward. In some hospitals once there no feeding is allowed becos the out come is uncertain ie c/s or vaginal delivery. she may be allowed to take light food any way. As for me i usually eat- rice with light soup or just tea before going to the labour ward as i know i would not eat till the baby is out. my last baby, i was too excited to eat!!

Go to the L&D they will let you know what the Dr. wants her to do. Some OB's will allow her to eat and some will not.

Also it matters how far along she is and if there are any complications. If it is a High Risk PG or chance of C-section then prolly not.

i cant beleive ur thinking abt eating when she has her contractions....u wanna have her kid jumping out on the dining table into the gravy bowl?
i think u shud rush to the hospital..coz it may be her true contractions. if shes sure they r ony fake then i dont think there shud be a prob. abt the diet. she can eat her normal diet...anyways wish her good luck for me

If she plans on having an epidural, she shouldn't eat. They can deny it to her. If she is going natural, have her eat something light...crackers. She risks the chance of throwing up during hard labor. GL!

I ate all while I was in labour, and seeing as that was for three days that was a good thing.

Just eat lighter meals that aren't going be too bad if you puke them up. (IE no orange juice, ever thrown up orange juice?)
