If by safe you mean will Red Yeast Rice hurt you? It is absolutely safe. Most health food stores in the U.S. carry it. I like the one formulated by NOW Foods, with Milk Thistle Seed extract for the liver & CoQ10 for the heart, but it's not for pregnant women or people with liver disease. Here's a link to read about that product: http://www.nowfoods.com/index.php?action=itemdetail&item_id=44913

If by safe you mean can you just take it and ignore the doctor's advice to take a prescription like Lipator, that's a call you'll have to make yourself. Partly depends on other risk factors you have for heart disease & stroke. Partly depends on how high your numbers are. Partly depends on you being willing to also make changes in diet and sedentary lifestyle.

Another thing you can do to help lower blood fats is consume Soluble Fiber like oat bran and apple pectin. It is available in capsules or you can eat oats and drink fruit pectin (found in the jelly-making supplies at the grocer's). There is a product call Pro-Fibe that has lots of insoluble fiber in it: http://www.profibe.com/index.htm?action=help&helpfile=products.htm

A desirable total cholesterol level is 200 mg/dL or lower. A desirable LDL is 100 mg/dL (130-159 is borderline high; 160 is high; 190 is very high). HDL, the "good cholesterol," should be around 40 mg/dL or greater. With HDL, the higher the number, the better, and 60 mg/dL is protective against heart disease.

it works but it comes mostly from China and those scammers put real prescription drugs in the product but do not say so on the label. Use at your own risk but I stopped buying Chinese herbal remedies years ago when I learned this

Yes, it seems to work pretty good for most people. It can be found in most health food stores...such as GNC.
