Franchising is a business strategy used by companies that have created and perfected a business concept and want to grow rapidly without great investment or risk, by replicating that business concept over and over again. Rather than operating the expanding business themselves, the franchisor (the name given to the creator of the business concept) looks for other people (franchisees) who want to run their own business but who want to use a proven concept rather than starting from scratch. The franchisees typically pay the franchisor a fee plus a percentage of revenue in exchange for the know how and the use of the brand. A franchising arrangement implies that the franchisee will have limited leeway as of how to run the business, and will have to closely follow the rules and procedures set by the franchisor.

in simple form a franchise in its true form is where a person/company pays a royalty, fee or both to use the franchises logo etc to sell your products. royalty fees are usually like 2-7% percent of earnings. It might seem dumb as you are paying someone money for nothing but here is a good example. Most people when they think of burgers think of mcdonalds. So having the rights to use the mcdonalds name you would be generating more income. Companies use franchising to grow there companies without having to spend alot of money doing so. Hope this helps
