Yes, it can be done... But I wouldn't do it that way.

Its not recomended. Because you need to do some inspection of the upper cylinder walls and honing. If there is to much ware you might have to bore the cylinders. And if the rings need replacing Its time for a rebuild, so everything else will last longer...

No, the cylinder head & oil pan will have to come off first.If the rings are worn the engine as a whole might be due an overhaul.

No the head has to come off.Oil burning are you sure it's the rings.Does it burn oil on first start up and when you let off the gas pedal,if the answer is yes then the oil burning problem is valve seals not rings
