It's pretty clear that his statistics were the result of feasting on subpar opponents all year long and he was completely incapable of doing anything against the only real defense he faced all year. Aren't there more deserving candidates?

Yes, I agree with you one hundred percent. Troy Smith is a fraud. I would not rank him in the top 20 players in the country. The only game he played in against a real quality football team, he choked. Did he have a few good games, yes. Was he the best offensive player in college football this year, not even close. The poor dude will be lucky to be a backup in NFL Europe.

The Heisman trophy is awarded to the most outstanding college player of the year. Unfortunately, the voting takes place before the season is over. The second place candidate was playing injured, but also had a mediocre bowl game. The vote this year wasn’t even close, so had it taken place after the bowl games I seriously doubt it would have affected the outcome.

Case and point: Who would you have voted for last year after the Rose bowl? Reggie Bush or Vince Young? Who went on to be the Rookie of the year in the NFL this year? Vince Young… Reggie has the trophy, but Vince is clearly a better player.

Heisman boys are notorious for not performing when it counts, like in the championship game.

Besides, if you start taking away the trophies, how would OJ pay his legal fees???

absolutely not are you insane?! alright, many factors contributed to the Ohio State defeat. First off, they hadn't played a game in 51 days which is darn close to two months. Second, Teddy Gin got hurt in his own pig pile...if recievers could have gotten open then troy smith wouldn't have been tackled so much, but the o-line can only protect him for so long. And the fact that you say he's played against the only real defense against Florida is a lie. Michigan was ranked 1st in defense for the better part of the year, and when they played them. Ohio State wasn't prepared menatlly due to the extremely lenghty gap between games which was unfair. Ohio state didn't play for pretty much 2 months where as florida state didn't play for only a month. thats about 30 days longer.

Sure there are many more deserving candidates, but it's not like he went to the Heisman Trophy committee and begged for it, they choose him so he deserves it and should keep it. I agree the only good team they played was Michigan but you know how the BCS is!

NO. He won the Heisman on what he did before the game. If they wanted to include the bowl games in the voting for the Heisman they would wait until the bowls were played.
