Democratic means you vote for the issue. Republic means you vote for the person who you want to decide on the issue. America is actually a Republic.

Democratic, in its purest sense, means that the people govern directly. It means that YOU would be the Senator, as would your neighbor.

The Democratic(and Republican) parties in this country do not follow the dictionary definitions.

The word is Greek. Demos = people. Kratos = rule. So, rule by the people.

It means that people have a voice in their government as expressed through the vote. In this country that voice is expressed through the selection of representatives that then act in our stead.
