Under its 1947 Charter, the CIA has NO domestic police powers.
From the New York Times today: John Radsan, an assistant general counsel at the C.I.A. from 2002 to 2004 and now a law professor at William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, said, “The C.I.A. is not supposed to have any law enforcement powers, or internal security functions, so if they’ve been issuing their own national security letters, they better be able to explain how they don’t cross the line.” I thought the FBI was supposed to do this.

Rand, this is in strict violation of the 1947 charter.
I don't think its been ammended and I think we still have the posse comutatus ( sp? ) in place. In theory the Pentagon and the CIA does not have a domestic law enforcement authority.

Tyrus; The CIA only can legally operate off shore.
Its been held accountable for illegal domestic spying before. No it is NOT doing what it is supposed to be doing. The CIA is supposed to conduct spying and operations outside the US.

When the heavenly idea of the new world came up it was propagated under the assumption that world will become a better living place for everybody. so where did that took us?
Let us observe some facts that became very obvious during the last 10 years after the US has declared her new plans to make the world a safer place:
1. US got the worst terrorist attack in the modern history.
2. US troops casualties every where in the world are sky high
3. the human rights inside USA has been violated like never before.
4. The McCarthyism like attitudes are the ones prevailing in the actions of the American administration.
5. This is the first time ever during the modern history that an American administration will declare her intentions to violate somebodies`s privacy based only on the suspicion of some lieutenant that was just a teenager few years ago and he thinks that he knows the welfare of the Americans better than they do
Please, isn`t that called dictatorship

This is unbelievably wrong-you're absolutely right. The CIA, FBI, NSA-there are no checks and balances, no limits-all agencies are all powerful. This is not a left or right issue-this is a USA issue. Once these lines are crossed, it's nearly impossible to go back. Those in the middle, those on the right, those on the left-all should be questioning this consolidation of power and elimination of citizen rights in the name of "security".

i think of of that some subjects that could opt to not be disclosed. i don't comprehend regarding the form of deaths. yet you sited one time the situation they only have been off by utilising 900 as against a million, one hundred. I do think of of each and each squaddies loss of life could opt to be honored and thought-approximately a great sacrifice. even though if, i think of of there is so plenty greater suitable deception happening indoors the concepts. The media will checklist the deaths huge-unfold. they have not achieved this interior of diverse conflict and there have been many greater suitable deaths in optimal of our previous wars. Many indoors the media and the democratic occasion choose the squaddies deaths reported not by way of actuality they choose the certainty obtainable. they are doing it for propaganda motives to smear Bush.

Im sure they could claim that it is part of an ongoing investigation of terrorist groups that are based outside the country, but have members in this country. That would seem to give them jurisdictin, kind of like the hot pursuit law that cops use to leave their county, dukes of hazzard excepted. I think that the law has been amended anyway, to give more inter agency cooperation so that another snaffu like the wtc mess doesnt happen.

The CIA is doing exactly what they should be doing, protecting US citizens from suspected terrorists, thus the 1947 charter is exempt when national security threats occur... and I hope they deport or kill every last terrorist that they catch red handed...
