Is the dog a Bulldog - if so you have at some time download Bulldog Virus program - which is very good however if your running two virus programs & 1 of them is the Bulldog virus program then your computer will lock up.

Sounds like a virus.Maybe do ctrl,alt delete and see whats running.If there is something that shows unknown delete it.
www.pcpitstop.com you can scan for free and it will tell you all programs running and what they are for.

adaware se personal

get update, reboot and do a full scan
if its a virus get your anti-virus up todate and do a full scan in safe mode
