I noticed a change beginning when I was 35. Not just specifically the problem you mention, but a whole range of things that indicated to me that some sort of turning point had occurred. I think it's just that the body is really noticing the loss of its youthful elasticity. I'm more sensitive to my sensitivities now, even the ones I never paid attention to before.

The poster who suggested walking after meals is right on. If it still continues you may want to investigate possible food allergies. Also, a gentle yearly cleanse is a really wonderful thing once you're over a certain age, as recommended and supervised by your doctor or other qualified health care practitioner, of course. I have done one, about 4 years ago, it wasn't gentle enough, but it cleaned out a lot of "nastiness" as one of the other posters so charmingly said. It also improved my vision (go figure), which does happen sometimes.

I hate to agree with someone who's categorizing their elders as having nasty bodies, but bodies do hang on to a lot of stuff, and over 40, you've got more stuff in there. I honestly think the only way to preserve feeling good, and looking good, over 40, is to be super health conscious. That means different things for different people, and it may be more or less a continuous pursuit, but what can you do.

You have received lots of good info, I ditto the exercise advice. Your probably eating about the same as you did when younger, compare how much you get around now as to when you were 25. Is your activity level less or more? Probably less, activity promotes parastalysis (elimination) and elimination cuts down on gas. So there you are, if you don't like to be active this is kind of a useless suggestion for you...if this is the case I would say roughage (hi fiber grain, vegies, fruits) may work becsue then the fiber does the exercize for you, it gets on the inside and does it's intestinal job, be sure to drink water. If you don't like to exercize you will have to do the hi fiber and water...no getting around it. Or, the wife may leave and you will be left with just you and your dog who aslo has the same problem.

You just don't have the same digestive constitution you had as a youth. Bummer. Try Beano and/or Lactaid depending on what you are wanting to eat. You may be lactose intolerant now. Lactaid can help you digest dairy. Beano deals with gas from veggies and of course, beans.
A close friend of mine said getting old is a dirty trick! I agree, but it beats the alternative! I also hate wearing readers, looking for things that are in my hand, forgetting anything I don't write down, hot flashes, night sweats, having to work twice as hard to maintain my weight. Bummer.

Our bodies change as we get older and a lot of things also change. Maybe it's what you eat or how you eat. Why don't you try Beanno it's an anti-gas product you can get at drug store. Or there is a gas relief product that relieves trapped gas that I use also over the counter as I have the same problem as you.

It can be many reasons, but one common one is changes in digestion. Many of the digestive enzymes we have as kids decline as we age. You could try taking a good digestive enzyme supplement and see if that helps. The supplement should offer a combination of enzymes, by the way, not just one. Also, try taking a psyllium based product like Metamucil regularly. It is very safe and good for you.

You may need to see a good Dr. in that field. Also some medications can cause bloating and gas. I am no spring chicken and I don't have that problem or am I in denial. ha ha. I hope not.
Really go see a gas Dr.( I can't spell the kind of Dr., oh ! well)

Do you eat more fiber (fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains) than you ate as a kid? Usually people try to eat more balanced diet with more fiber as they get older? That could cause more gas probably...You could try Beano or GasX or some other product with simethecone that they make for gas (I only know that they advertise it nothing more than that).

avoid gaseous foods..onion, broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, beans, dairy....all the foods that are good for you. Take gas x or beano when eating these.

It could be your diet. I think when you are younger you are less sensitive to things that effect you that way as you age.
