After the cornsnake has been fed in a separate container, give him about 10-30 minutes to calm down and let his food settle. Then it would be safe to handle him while you put him back. Having a snake regurge is not much fun, makes for a wasted meal, and if it happens too many times, it may make the snake sick.

Once he is put back into the terrarium, give him a minimum of 24 hours, but preferably 2-3 days to digest his food. Then he should be good to go until next feeding time.

I think it's best to put your corn snake back into it's terrarium pretty soon after you fed him/her since the heat lamp will help it digest it's food.

I feed snakes in the terrarium. They do better that way. If you feed them in another container they will get stressed when they can't hide and picking them up after eating you risk getting bitten while they are still in "hunting mode" and you could cause it to regurgitate it's food.
