I used to work at fast food restaurants like mcdonalds'... it is common practice for employees to flick the switch on the food timers a couple of times...an average hamburger lasts 30 minutes under the hoodie...in reality, when you receive that same hamburger, it could have been there for over 2 hours at a time...food is also dropped on the floor and picked back up to be placed on those tasty buns of yours...even the employees don't practice safe sanitary habits as they are constantly blowing their noses, wiping their hands across filthy aprons, and eating behind manager's backs (thus infecting the entire batch of food) all WITHOUT washing their hands! The pressure by management is to save food WITHOUT waste...meaning, don't throw anything out that can be consumed by human being or rat!!...on top of that, i've researched fast food restaurants and have found them to be infested with roaches and rat droppings! Be afraid of McDonate-A-Major Organ and any other fast food restaurant...be very afraid...(ghoulish laughter)!!

None of that surprises or shocks me. Typically they are run by teenagers that don't make enough to care. I try not to eat fast food.

You want to really learn about the fast food industry read the book, "Fast Food Nation".

Yes, fast food restaurants are quite disgusting. Even if the employees were sanitary; the food itself is filled with chemicals that make your body feel full but don't supply the vitamins etc. that you need. The fast food restaurants are especially hard to steer away from when I've been out all night drinking and dancing. The next thing on my mind is a burger or breakfast. Damn those COCKTAILS!!!

My take on fast food restaurants is this...NEVER EAT IN ONE! I'm proud to say I haven't eaten in one for over a year. Not only do I feel better, I have lost 35 pounds over the past year.
I also used to work at fast food restaurants, who hasn't? I managed a Wendy's in Miami 25 years ago. That was when they pattied the hamburger meat right there in the restaurant. Quality was strictly enforced then, unfortunately, things have changed. The last time I worked in one of those places, about 10 years ago, things were so bad, I called the Health Department on them myself!

I work in a big box store and McDonald is right there, so it's really convenient for lunch, coffee etc... A few months ago I was waiting to get lunch when something happened to make me angry enough I stormed out and I haven't set foot in there in 8 weeks. I bring my lunch and coffee now. I'm really proud of myself for not going there anymore. Since then I only went to A&W once and Taco del mar twice.
I have never seen anyone there acting like you describe. Mostly all of the kids that work at McD are OK, and the food safe practice is followed rigorously, well as far as I could see. I don't feel sorry for not going there anymore and I know my arteries are thanking me. Have a good day. Cheers!

most fast food places have spot checks by health inspectors. Not all have such poor behavior in their stores. I live in Canada and i believe the food here is safe for the most part because Canada has very strict rules for all places that sell food , not just Fast Food. I have traveled and lived in the States and have never gotten sick from the food so i don't believe it is that bad. You can always report the place and have a health inspector come investigate if you witness these things occurring.

Don't be fooled. It happens in 95% of places that sell food, restaurants, groceries, etc. There is a 5 second rule on dropping a product. If picked up in that amount of time, is is saleable. Bakeries included. When an employee has to account for damaged or unsold products, you bet they are going to relable items that have expired, and clean off as best as possible items that have been dropped. It is their job on the line.

Every adult knows this stuff. Even high priced restaurants have the same problems. What we try to do as a society is to keep the standards high enough that most of the time most of the food will be okay to eat.

My big pet peeve is the disposable gloves that employees are to wear to keep their hands of your food. What I frequently see is employees faithfully wearing the gloves at all times. They mop floors, they put our napkins and ketchup. Then they return behind the counter and touch your food without changing the gloves. It's as though the gloves are to protect them.

I put myself through college slinging slop and waiting tables in truck stops and various low brow eateries, and I have seen it all. Food on the floor being served, pubic hair in the food from the cook scratching his itchy, heat rash riddled gonads and then handling the food, the list goes on.

I really don't care. I ate it all and it never once made me sick. You're better off worrying about what that greasy mess does to you than worrying about whether or not the person who made it washed his hands before he touched it.

It is because of this that I prefer to make my meals at home, and take my lunch with me to work daily. Don't get me wrong...I do eat at restaurants, but RARELY fast food....but I am sure there are just as many sanitation issues at larger restaurants as there are at fast food chains. It is just too bad that people to take enough pride in themselves and their place of employment to follow common sense practices. Hey...were are the supervisors anyway??

If I do eat anything 'fast' I'll typically go to Subway, since the food is prepared directly in front of you in gives me some measure of comfort. Also, while there is no guarantee with the food as they prep it, the system they have there with food prep just doesn't lend itself to as many problems as places like McDonalds.
