That's a tough question. I bet it is a dog or cat in your neighborhood. You could try to see if anyone near you keeps a dog outside that isn't the nicest dog and might be attacking your cat. Is this cat a full male looking for trouble? If so fixing him might solve that problem. If it's a female I'm not quite as sure what you can do other than look for other unfixed males in your neighborhood that is probably the cause. Either way, if you don't find the answer that can be resolved I would start to ask friends to take care of him/her for a while at least until he/she heals up. I doubt this is practical but if this is something that happens ALL the time and you have lots of patience... I'd find a day off and follow him.

Oh, you might try asking your neighbors if they have similar problems with their cats coming back hurt.

To find out if it is your other cat keep them locked in a room for a while. If there's evidence of fighting you can decide what to do from there. If all is well try keeping your cat in at night as this tends to be when cats fight, but let them out during the day as usual. I hope you find a solution to your problem soon. All the best.

It doesn't sound like a bite from another cat. If your other cat were biting him, you would see evidence of that at home.
Do your cats have rabies vaccinations? (I'm guessing the answer is yes). What time of the day is this happening - or is it at night? If it's happening during the daytime, I would suspect dogs in the neighborhood. If it's happening at night, then more likely it is a wild animal. If I were in your place, I would restrict their time outside to daytime hours only.
In any case, I hope things improve for you and your cat.

Maybe getting him 'DONE' at the vets will prevent him from these injuries as he is prob causing the fights! I have a feral cat I have had since 3 weeks old and before he was castrated was constanly coming home with injuries from battling other cats!
If this fails, give him a hoody and some bling which may improve his street rep as a thugh and cause other cats to think twice b4 beating him up. :)

Oh, poor you, that's so sad. I quite understand why you would not want to keep them in. PErhaps you could ask your neighbours if they have seen anything etc, but if it is another cat, then there is very little you can do about it, it's difficult, if it was a dog or something then maybe you could have a word with the owner about making there fences more secure. Poor kitty

Put bells on your cats so you know where they are. Also, you could put orange peel around the places they get attacked (wierd I know) or let them out in the daytime, and keep them locked in at night, thats what we do. Our cats safe and quiet in the living room. Especially if we spend the evening with them they go all sleepy and you can just leave them with a litter box and food etc until morning.

I have a male tom cat he has been spayed this quietens them down a bit,but he still comes home with cuts
cats are territorial they go the same route every time they go out to check for other animals on their land ,there may be a new cat on his patch or he could be entering a garden with a dog .
our cat has also came home with puncture wounds from a fox looking for food in the winter months ,we lost our other cat to a fox
our cat stays in all day sleeping & goes out at night

Has he been neutered yet ?
I didn't have my cat done for a while and he would roam along way from home crossing other cats territories and would come home cut to pieces.
Since hes had the chop he stays in the back garden.

the only thing that you can do is be on the look out for any large cats lurking around its most probably another cat as dogs (normally) aren't quick enough!!
a water pistol is a good safe solution if you see any thing near your home then squirt it!!!
the only other thing is to change when you let him out hopefully you will miss the time the "others" are out. also letting your one out for a shorter time. let him out and get him back in sooner with treats and make a real fuss of him when he is back in so that he gets into a different routine!

Try putting a cat jacket on him-that will save him injury if he insists on getting into trouble over female cats
