and fully begin to enjoy the major changes in this country? There is a tremendous influx of Blacks into the middle class and they now can enjoy political, social and financial power that wasn't available to their parents and grandparents. Is there a reason that so many hold on to the old ideas? (I am not saying that prejudice against blacks has disappeared, but much of it is a thing of the past)

I know what you mean and yes, I am too African American. I think alot of us have a hard time shaking off the past because of the horrors of how most of the slaves were treated right here in America. Then you have the old timers who had eye witnessed slavery and those who have fought for freedom during the Civil Rights Movement and have negative thoughts of what they have accomplished as far as employment opportunities, eating in certain restaurants, etc and the younger generation of blacks feel discouraged about what our people had to go through to get their freedom in this country and are still suffering discrimination in 2007. Because of this alot of us are afraid that those times of slavery will come back again and so do nothing to better their lives & make excuses.

But not African Americans have that slave mentality. There are alot of successful blacks who have their own businesses, who go to college & graduate, get married & have kids of their own. But unfortunately, the media is responsible for misrepresenting us. They make blacks seem like a bunch of lazy kids who rob stores and shoot up each other.

Probably not....why should we? It is a peace of history...yours and mine! It shouldn't and never will be forgotten! But you really can't blame us...White people as well as SOME black people are still racist. Even though it is 2007. White people are being racist in sneakier ways now...but we know it is still there! So no slavery will NEVER be forgotten! If it were the White people who were enslaved do you think you guys would forget it...NEVER! You would bring it up every chance you get and use it to you're advantage. Just the other day...there was a Black man running for mayor in a small white town and was to be sworn in the next day! He was found dead in a parking lot with the gun about three ft away from him. the police never did an investigation. They drove his car back to his families house and said it was suicide. Which it wasn't because how could you kill yourself and throw the gun?! You can't! It was an act of HATE...racism. Those white people didn't want a Black man running their town! So I see no reason to forget slavery when things like this keep happening! Also when cops see a Black man minding their own business they think "oh well he must be doing something he shouldn't" which half the time isn't the case. America is just a big mess right now. It's 2007 get over the racial issues. We're on this Earth and we're here to STAY...weather you like it or NOT! Why would we get over something you all obviously can't get over yourselves?! Just look at the questions on here everyday!

No one is holding them back anymore and the ones that say they are being held back are just lazy and want something for nothing. No one is stopping anyone from going to school and studying(the prooven way to make a good life for yourself), no one makes them have all the children they can't afford, no one makes them speak improperly(speech is a necessary part of success). No one makes them call a successful black a sell out, or accuse him of being an Oreo(white on the inside). These are the main problems I see facing the black community as a collective that only they can fix themselves.

I know there are a lot of blacks who don't feel and act like that and are decent, intelligent individuals trying to better themselves but I can also point to 20 that aren't for every one of you.

I don't think it is ever going to happen. Native Americans still talk badly about white folks because they invaded and took their land from them (and murdered them in the process). Jews still talk about the Holocaust. So, why would African Americans ever let us off the hook for slavery? I asked a question much like this yesterday and got very few answers..half of them being from caucasians. It seems that African Americans don't want to talk about this, and they certainly don't want to move on.;.despite the fact that not a one of them alive on the planet today was ever a slave. I live in a middle class neighborhood, a nice neighborhood..and about 50% of the folks there are African American..so...how on earth can anyone say that it's more difficult for them to succeed as a race than it is for me? Apparently, a lot of people from all races are doing very well for themselves. So get off the "I lack self-esteem because of slavery" soapbox folks..it's just plain not working anymore...Slavery is indeed a part of history..but it's called history for a reason..it's over, gone. Get up and move on to bigger and better things.

From my perspective, only the losers are into the victim role playing. Blacks, like whites can succeed, or they can whine about how unfair life is. It comes down to the old saying, you make your bed, and you sleep in it.

I think the only remaining prejudice against blacks is a result of the media created "rapper" image. Sadly, a lot of young blacks try to emulate this criminal persona. That hurts all blacks. It is the function of mainstream media and the politicians to stir up hate and discontent where ever they can.

I commonly wondered about that too. I continuously assumed regardless of the reality that that the entire "good" hair and "undesirable" hair replaced into extra about manageability regardless of the reality that. one in all my pals transforming into up had kinky hair and her sister had right now hair. I commonly sat next to her on the floor at the same time as her mom did their hair and ought to remark about how her sister had "good" hair and she or he had "undesirable" hair. i theory it replaced into because the right now hair replaced into extra common to administration, not truly that it regarded extra ideal. for sure, it really is coming from a whiteish lady who interior of reason naive about such issues. in my opinion, i love the seem of organic hair. that is really fit. Hell, I in effortless words discovered very last 12 months that for black individuals, a perm takes the curl out.
