The fuel filter will not effect how the pump runs. The pump is either working or it isn't. If it isn't, it may need to be replaced.

Turn the key to the on position (don't start the car) and listen for the pump to turn on at the back of the car. If you don't here it engage, hit the bottom of the tank a few times with a rubber mallet. Don't be shy, smack it pretty hard. If it still doesn't start, you probably need a new pump and module - which is all one unit on this application.

The newer cars has relays that make the fuel pump run. From your description your fuel pump relay has gone bad. Turn the key on and listen for the fuel pump to run if you don't hear a sound. Look in the owners manual or in the fuse block under the hood to locate where the fuel pump relay is located on your car, there should be another relay next to the fuel pump relay that looks the same as it does, take it out and place it into the fuel pump relay slot if you hear the pump running take the fuel pump relay to the parts store and buy a new one.( I don't recommend you drive that vehicle to the parts store, because when you take that relay out to use as a test relay you cause another item on the car to not work. ) Then place the relay you swapped back into to where you took it out of and put the new relay where it belongs. ( IE; the fuel pump slot )

It could the the PCM (engine computer), a relay or fuse, or wiring. If you used an aftermarket fuel pump it could very likely be bad. For some reason the aftermarket fuel pumps (regaurdless of brand in my experience) have a very high failure rate. In my shop I don't install aftermarket fuel pumps unless the customer agrees to pay the labor again if it fails. A friend of mine had a fuel tank up and down 6 times before he finally bought an AC Delco pump. It fired right up after installing the good pump. He'll NEVER use another aftermarket pump. Good luck!

1. do u hear the pump noise when first turning the key on?

2. does the car stop running after u stop spraying fuel in throttle body? if so, your mass air flow sensor isn't working.

if it only runs for a few seconds then dies, check all the fuses in the interior fuse pannel. some of the courtesy fuses also apply power to the Body Controll Module
