Current Situation: 1 Betta, 2.5 gallon tank, filtered, heated, stress coat used to dechlorinate the water.

Was in unheated fishbowl. Wasn't eating. Wasn't swimming. Bought the new tank w/ heater. Added a tetra in with him. Things were better. Was eating and active. Things were ok. Recently he has been chansing the tetra all the time. Noticed betta's fins looked different. Were "drying out." Looked shorter. Part was missing. Tetra was not attacking the betta.

Seperated them. Now the betta has the tank, heater, filter, etc.

Will his fins get better? What else could I do?

The pics in the links show him now:

In this pic, you can see the tail fins are small.

In this pic, you can see him flaring. The dorsal fin is missing some of the pieces.

your link to the pic is broken but I would suggest taking him to your local fish store and they could see his issues and give you better advise... you can put him in some of his water, and put him in either a tupperware container with a lid or a ziplock baggie, just leave enough air in the baggie for him....then they can also test your water... were the teras effected also?? if is is a disease then it would show up on them also....other than that here are some good links.....hope these help..smile...good luck!!!

these ones even has descriptions of illness:

by the way congrats on the new baby!! got to see those pics just not the ones of your betta...smile....

EDIT: I dont see alot of problems with the pictures but its different seeing him in person.. take him to your local fish store and have them take a look at him.. but make sure ther isn't too much water in the container.. he is fine for awhile without his beautiful tank... just use his water to transport him... try and find a fish store that specializes in selling ONLY fish... they will help you immensly... good luck...p.s. NICE TANK!!!!

Looks like your betta has a nasty case of fin rot. This usually occurs when the betta is kept in less than ideal conditions. I'm guessing this came from an ammonia spike, which occurs in newly filtered tanks. Also, are you sure that the stress coat stuff is really a dechlorinater? Usually stress coat is used to help boost your fish's immune system when acclimating it to a new environment, not to dechlorinate the water. Using something like Amquel+ might be a better option.

I suggest that you go and get some Melafix, which is a nice, natural remedy for fin rot. Do a major water change and add the Melafix according to the instructions. Keep the water as clean as possible while your fish regrows his fins. In time, you should notice some clear regrowth on the parts of his fins that were affected. Eventually, some color will return to these clear edges. The fins will never look the same as before, but they will certainly heal.

Take good care of his water is the best you can do. Sounds like to me he may be getting old. I have had my betas do this when they are about 2 to 3 years old. They usually die especially if they are not eating. Maybe an internal parasite, bacteria or fungus. They are so small its hard to tell. Don't be sad if he doesn't make it go get a prettier one and put him in the cleaned out 2.5 gallon set up that you have.
Oh although Melafix won't hurt anything it doesn't work too well. Salt bath is safe and does work its been used for hundreds of years. Add a handful of aquarium salt insted. Stop buying all that medication. You have to properly diagnose the infection in order to be sure you are using the right medication, and that takes a microscope and a little know how. These pet stores will sell you anything.

I quite have an air pump working interior the tank 24 hours an afternoon. is this a appropriate alternative for a stay plant? A- that's superb to have, yet isn't nessesary, considering that they breath of the exterior of the water. A stay plant or pretend one must be the tank, they want to take a seat back there physique's on gadgets, while they get lazy -i offered 2 varieties of Betta nutrition, one is those tiny tiny pellets, and one is flakes. He would not look to love the flakes very plenty, yet he will consume them. He on the instant will consume the pellets, yet would not look to have the ability to maintain them down... or he spits them out after "chewing" them for some seconds. is this something I must be aggravating approximately? i do no longer understand if he's getting sufficient to consume, and that i do no longer want to starve him. A-maximum betta's desire the pellets, and that i like to apply them via fact i come across that they do no longer pollute the wear as actual via fact the flakes. now and returned the pellets are a sprint super, and the betta will bite some off and spit out something. Its widespread. in addition they quite love blood worms as a handle, consistent with danger supply a small volume another day. I propose feeding a betta another day, as to no longer overfeed, and that they do no longer ought to, interior the wild they choose for days without ingesting, except the betta is fairly lively there is not any ought to feed known. -Is it wholesome for me to coach him a reflect each now and then so he would not think of he's thoroughly on my own interior the international? I additionally want to work out him flare, and from what I understand, this could be a sturdy thank you to get him to try this. A- you may carry a reflect as much as them, they now and returned will flare, yet no longer constantly. they do no longer possibly care approximately different fish, so being on my own isn't a difficulty. in spite of the shown fact that it may do any harm, in basic terms make beneficial he would not get under pressure. additionally you may placed some fish with them, like corydora's, shrimp, snails, and neon's. listed right here are the regulations for betta tankmates: a million) no longer colourful or resemble a rival betta's colorings (guppies, gourami) 2) no longer a fin nipper (Tiger barb, Danio) 3) the excellent length for the size of the tank (No plecos in and so on) 4) Lives kind of interior the comparable water circumstances as a betta (no brackish/saltwater fish/chilly water fish)

This happened to my beta when I put him with my female. Its the fact that he was sharing the tank with another fish. He was stressed out. There is a Beta Aid that you can buy from your local fish store and adding that to the water will help him grow his beautiful fins back in a few short weeks.

The links don't work but maybe he has fin rot. Look at him closer for any signs of disease and treat him for fin rot/bacterial infections.
