On starting up the PC it just showed as the Power LED being lit, but no other activity. The origional memory was 256Mb DDR PC2100 Ram. The computer can take upto 1 Gig, so I went on the the Mr Memory site and selected my laptop model and asked for 2 x 512 Mb Ram - I recieved 2 x SOD333 PC2700U - 512 MB Ram

It would seem that this is not compatible, or have I missed a step somewhere

It would seem the two models are not compatible.

The only other problems are that you installed the new card incorrectly.

A disk came with the new Ram card that needs to be installed

You damaged the card with static charge on your hands

Most likely the first one... installing Ram is noramlly very simple as already mentioned.

Contact Compaq/HP and determine the correct modules needed for your machine. Also, put the old memory back in to see if the machine will once again boot up. If you have the correct type of memory and you can't boot up, get an RMA from Mr Memory and have them replace the modules you bought from them.
