all of the above are worthy contenders - but my personal fave is Montgomery Clift of Rainbow County and From here to Eternity fame, he was gorgeous, gay but tortured by his sexuality (he loved Elizabeth Taylor) and had he died in the car crash than maimed him - he would have been on a par (gruesome I know - but Hollywood said it first) with James Dean for iconic status! In the years to come more were handsome than him - but few has his presence - his tour de force in the film Judgement at Nuremburg is a neglected genius

ah yes a really good question, but sadly it can't be answered. Why? because beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so what is beautiful to one is just plane Jane to another.
