sound goes off?

i have windows xp, and sometimes (even when im not using it) the wireless network just gets disconnected for a few seconds, the pc jams for about 4 secs and the sound goes off. The sound will only come back when i restart the pc.
i did system restore from a time when my pc didnt have this problem but it is still doing it.
is it harware or software problems ??
how can i fix this? i dont care so much for pc technicians id much rather try doing it myself

try installing a sound card (new) which matches your system configuration
