I honestly believe that some people ask stupid questions on purpose to provoke a response, such as outrage, laughter, humility, or to provoke thought, etc.
And then there are the people don't realize they are asking a "stupid" question, they are just naive. They can ask questions here that they could not ask any where else because this is anonymous.
And lastly, some people ask stupid questions because they are stupid.
Genuine answers come from genuine people trying to help. Although sometimes, I admit, I can't help but give a smart*** answer. And of course, there is that thing about getting points!

There is a multitude of reasons for why people give genuine answers to a fraudulent question. Several scholars have conducted extensive research into this phenomenon and believe that it is a disorder with two main causes; one is a deep-rooted fear of hurting peoples feelings, usually caused by a bad childhood or collapsed marriage the other cause being spiteful beings who just love to annoy people. Unfortunately, for the time being no cures have been found for this disorder.

If a question can be given a serious answer sometimes it is better to do so. You may be old enough or educated enough to know its stupid but others are not! I think as well that people ask stupid questions to see how many people will give a serious answer. Its quite funny reading them! Mostly we just think as we are reading it we may as well answer and take the points! Which is why I answered this!
