All medicine to a greater or lesser degree is diagnostic medicine. I am not aware of a particular specialty called "diagnostic medicine" in the US (or elsewhere for that matter). Generally it takes 4 years of medical school to become a doctor, and at least 3 years (and as many as 10 or 11 for some specialties) of post-graduate training for your specialty.

I'm an ophthalmic technologist. It has taken me ten years of education, work, and unemployment to get my career. I've been unemployed for three years due to competition.

Once you get a job, it will last for years.
