Sounds like the head gasket... Get it checked before it warps and your engine seizes.

Black smoke is unburnt fuel, check air filter isnt clogged, check fuel filters have been changed recently on an 04 plate i wouldnt think the injectors but you need to have fuel delivery pressure checked as well

Black smoke USUALLY indicates too much fuel. A bad injector, improperly set pump, clogged return line are among the first things to check. Turbo may also be the culprit. You did not say whether the black smoke is constant, or just when you add power (as in after shifting, or powering up a hill). Constant would be the bigger worry. In case it matters, blue smoke indicates an oil problem, white smoke indicates coolant in the combustion chambers. Usually.

Black smoke is unburnt fuel. If it does it all the time, when under a load and has 200,000 or more miles on it, check your pump pressure. If you can hear a banging sound once in a while it is probably an injector. Neither are serious problems but can be Big $$$$

ARBEE is correct it is too much fuel caused by injector pump
or injectors probably
