Who sold it and why?

It depends on the conditions upon which the vehicle was sold. If it was sold through repossession or any such action, there isn't a thing you can do at all if it was done within the statutory period in your state. However, if someone without legal authority sold your car, you may have a cause of action in tort for conversion. I suggest that you speak with an attorney on this matter.

Did you sign the title? If your signature is on the title it would be hard to prove that it wasn't sold without your consent. If your title has been signed by someone else, or if you were absent during the sale that would go more in your favor, but this isn't going to be easy. You have to go to your department of motor vehicles and inform them of your dilemma, they will be able to obtain a copy of the title that was signed off. You can then take it to the police department and file a report. That is how you will get the ball rolling, keep in mind whoever forged your signature on the title can and more than likely will be charged criminally and there is no promise of your car being returned to you, you may have to sue the forger in civil court. They will aslo have to repay the person who purchased your car if you do get your car returned to you. I wish you the best.... good luck.

Depending on the person that it was sold to you could just be out of luck.

Who signed the title over? You may have a case of fraud. You will have to press charges on whoever got a hold of your title and forged your name.

If you didn't sign the title, then it's a fraudulent sale and you should contact your attorney.
