I checked my source again (her application for naturalization), and she definitely spelled it Kamnitz, Russia. Now of course this could be an "englisized" version of the orgiinal name.. and in fact, it's more than likely that that's what happened. Nonetheless, it's all I've got to go on.

It likely does not exist as a named town, maybe it is in Belarus or Georgia or ?

Common Russian name allied to about 20 others that sound "more Russian" most all Jewish family names.

Kamnitz is a city in old Bohemia (Germany).

It could be on an 1890's map, could be just a bit misspelled.

Just not enough to go on, and many of those farm villages were plowed under in the years that followed.
