For the most part I believe that it is a symbol that needs to be retired. I understand the concept of regional pride, I really do. But there are so many negative connotations associated with the Confederate Flag image that I think the people who honestly bear it in that context lose what they're going for. It just does not represent anything great about the South, but rather a lot of things that would be better left in the past.

Being a southern boy myself, I realize the Confederate flag may represent racially charged statements for some misguided, misinformed souls...especially for folks that weren't raised in the south and have little experience thereof. But for many good-hearted southern people, like myself, it is a symbol of pride that we patriotic, southerners have endured and yes, have also delivered, hard, tragic times throughout our history yet have even, still risen above the rising tide of hate and indifference others have associated with this flag..a flag that our brothers and sisters of all color perished under, here, within the land of the free. So, my fellow citizens, there's not one thing wrong...not one thing... with expressing your personal patriotic pride through the Confederate Flag, American Flag, your State Flag or any other flag of your choice if you have a mind to. You fly it high!...as high as you wish! And LET FREEDOM REIGN!

I think it looked really cool on the top of the General Lee...Other than that, it is a symbol of a group of people that lost a war... Confederate record in wars = 0-1.

I don't really see racism when I see it, I see tradition and a cool logo, but I never had to face the racism that some of the people had to face, so I really can't speak to that. I know that it offends some people, so I would never have a patch or a tatoo of it or display it in any way...

In a serious sense, it stands for a way of life that stood the test of time and stood for pride and glory for those that fight for what they beleived in. In another sense, that flag represents strife, tragedy, loss of life and land, and predjudice and serves as a warning to this day for some to "stay away" from the South. In a funny sense, it makes a great Tattoo and looks really good as a artwork on a hot rod.

That's a hot topic... especially in the south. There is theis ongoing debate thing about 'heritage vs hate' I think you know which side is which! Sigh... I don't know, really.

It's a piece of cloth. I don't think too much about it, but I don't think it should be flown on state capital buildings.

I say it's heritage not hate, that's who we are and that's who our forefathers were here in the South.
