Many people learn English by watching television! And what a better way to learn proper English than by watching and listening to well trained newscasters. I knew a fellow from Spain who perfected his English by watching Star Trek reruns and watching the evening news.

Unlike many immigrant kids who may be enrolled in ESL classes, they often end up speaking "gutter English" to try and sound hip or cool. If these immigrant children want to suceed in the USA, they should learn and practice proper English, and I cannot think of a better way than to emulate the newscasters on FOX! Shep Smith speakes very good English.

Oh, and regarding the ratings.....Only if your parents received a ratings book from Neilsen would their viewing count in ratings.

Can they understand English when they hear it? Or maybe they can read it? Otherwise, why do they have it on?

Any way, TV program ratings are generally derived from things like Neilsen ratings. Unless your parents have participated in something like that, they're not contributing to Fox News' ratings.

Weird isn,t it. Maybe they are trying to learn english and find the news easiest to semi understand. I think Fox news is Bush backed and uses special color and conservative construct and a carrier wave to induce people to watch it, I turn it on a lot and I hate it, wierd, just plain wierd.

If they don't speak English, how can they possibly know what they are saying? Anyhow, in this case, it is harmless. They know not what they do!
