The present roads cant be expanded as it leads to effect many families and businesses...The one thing on which government should concentrate is to reduce the population in bangalore city by shifting the MNC's or the new companies which would like to come bangalore shold be shifted to other parts of karnataka..All these problems have arised because of the outsiders coming into the city and making it to live difficult for the localites..unless the companies shifted ouside bangalore there is no solution for present horrible situation of bangalore....of course MNCs have given better jobs and handfull many to the people but they have made it difficult for the middle calss people to survive in this costly city...

Long term approach
1. All companies should be made to pay 1% of profit for a infrastructure fund.
2. There should be a board of control represented by companies, urban planners and civic bodies to manage this fund.
3. Execute road construction and other civil works by contracting it to reputed companies only with proven track record of quality. No babu-contractor nexus in awarding these contracts.
4. Buy machines (a sort of big vacuum cleaner) to suck all the dry dust/mud from roads. This will go a long way in reducing pollution dud to suspended particles and improve health of the people.
5. Recruit more traffic management personnal. The cost can be offset by generating revenue by imposing fines for all traffic violations.
6. Build more pheripheral roads and move industries/companies there.
7. Execute the Bangalore Metro in the right earnest.
8. No free parking - I think Bangalore is the ONLY city in the world where parking is free but you have to pay to use public toilets!! Public toilets are to be used by poor people and parking is to be paid by vehicle owners. Can you see the irony here.
9. Plant more trees.
10.Appoint a CEO for Bangalore city.

Few Suggestions...
1) The companies , irrespectives of their domain , should make their employees to share transportation.
2) Govt should straterically think of growing Bangalore in all its directions ( N-E-W-S). Let them provide good roads and connecting links towards Mysore and Nelamangala and make few of the good and big companies move there...so that growth of bangalore , which is important for economy , will grow laterally at all sides rather than concnetrating only on North or East or South...
3) Mandate the working hours or IT pros. For example, seggreate IT staffers timings from the govt staffers. Let IT pros work from 7-4pm and govt staffers from 10-5pm as usual. Take the cue from Garment employees..
4) Create awareness about the mistakes of individuals..still few dont have the common sense. Take steps to build the common sense
There are plenty to discuss about but suggested that we all meet together and take a step forward

I believe that lots of B'lore roads are pretty wide enough or have been made one ways to make them wide enough... and that is not really solving problems.
I believe that if U can't widen roads, then why not try speeding up traffic. Yes it cud lead to accidents, but that is not because of speed but more because we have happhazard traffic.
Anyone can cut in from any where, any pedestrian can cross the road anywhere, buses can stop in the middle of the road, we have slow vehicles driving in the fast lane where lots of cars could have just overtakken and freed roads for other users.
we have slow vehicles driving parallel to each other blocking the road so no fast vehicle can overtake.... I believe traffic rules have to put down and implemented (This being the key)..
I have usually found that there is no fast lane at all here, fast vehicles have no other choice but to zig zag in the traffic.. but if vehicles don't clear faster how can we make way for other traffic..
I have see that speed breakers have been used to control traffic in some places.. but I believe speed breakers should be on the cross roads rather than main roads.. We have vehicles from cross roads cutting off people driving fast in main roads esp like ring roads.. this cause all vehicles travelling on the main road to stop creating a minor jam.. and so it goes..
I believe traffic problems has to first be addressed by better traffic rules and better implementation of the rules more than anything else...

The only reason B'lore is facing this problem is due to exponential growth on concentrated sectors with minimal improvements to the infrastructure. This would happen anywhere in the world, if proper giving-back mechanism is not set up. A funding mechanism (Transportation Improvement Fund) that provides fees to mitigate transportation impacts could be set up at an early stage. All developments provides a fair-share to build the required infrastructure. From a myopic perspective, this may seem like punishing the developers, but in reality it is a win-win situation. Government benefits by having sufficient funds to improve the infrastructure, while developments become more profitable through easy accessibility and improved quality of life for both employees and customers. This policy is in place everywhere in the world and needs immediate implementation in all States (not only B'lore) to stop future damage to the infrastructure.
This has been my experience through active involvement, participation and providing consulting to small to large developing cities in US.
My 2 cents.

Nobody can give a permanent solutions for the Indian people and Indian road conditions. We can only minimise the damages from the present maximum damage.
People should co-operate and help the Government to solve the ever increasing terrific condition of roads rather traffic condition of the Indian roads.

First and foremost all Drivers should follow traffic rules, irrespective of whether a Cop is on duty or not. Unless the drivers enforce some sort of discipline in the way they drive no amount of policing/one ways will work.
When our IT guys/gals go abroad dont they follow rules? Then why this apathy here.
Everybody parking everywhere, jamming junctions at signals just aggravate the problem.
So the only solution, Drive better, Drive safe, Follow rules

Increase the police strength in traffic control. Make people aware of safety. implement speed limit in city limits. make spot fine at a stretch of every 1000 metres. keep ambulances, blood bottles, emergency vehicles/ambulances ready at each 1000 metres to render first aid in the first golden hour of the accident.
strickly enforce traffic rules including wearing of helmets for two wheeler riders and pillion riders including women folk.
Highways dept to improve the road conditions on war footing, round the clock.
Motor vehicle tax can be hiked to meet additional expenses.

If you mean the physical condition of roads - answer is to put more money and execute road works expeditiously.
If you mean the driving and congestion - answer is to build more multi-level parking complexes, promoting car pooling, developing alternate roads at the periphery of the city.
