Hi Julie,
A darn good question.
I jump out of small aicraft, for charity now and then, wearing a jumper.
The OED rattles on about an upper body covering,a gap in a series, jumper leads to transfer current from A to B,
or one who simply jumps up and down.
I shall have a jump up & down, in my hand - knitted, multi-couloured jumper. and not call it a cardigan.
There's another one !
Oh - it stems from India, by the way !
As per Jodpers, or however she be spelled.
Cheers, I love the English language, although I am a Geordie.
Bob.

Hi i believe it is named after a bloke called Willie Jumper who stole the honour from his wife who knitted many garments, cardies ,socks, pullovers etc it was first produced when his wife made a pullover and added sleeves. Also when it was first put on show his first name
was mis-spelt on the paperwork and thats how we ended up with wullie jumper.
