I think Tony Blair is a great man who cared less about his political future or how the press treated him than he did about his country. I think that everything he did was in favor of what he absolutely believed was the right thing to do, and didn't care if it was popular or not. He withstood a great deal of ugliness on behalf of defending his nation, and the future of the U.K., and the anguish must have been intense at times.
He is a great orator, compared to poor GW who is not, and has made his every case brilliantly. I believe he will be widely quoted.
Blair is pure class, in every way, and regardless of how the press is treating him now, I believe history will treat him differently.
In short; Bravo Mr. Blair, and thank-you for your service and your sacrifice to your country and her allies!

As someone who is a member of a party other than Blair's...
He's an ideological liberal. He's turned the Labour Party from the lunatic socialist fringe to a responsible social-democratic, centre-left party.
He's an honest guy who (after years worrying about opinion polls) realized at the start of his 2nd term to do what he thinks is right and let history be the judge. I think with hindsight he was wrong on Iraq, but he was in a difficult position and genuine believed he was acting in the UK's best interest. He is deamonized by some as being the architect of Iraq but in reality he could never have stopped it happening and could only choose whether or not to commit our forces to help the our long term ally.
He is prepared to stand up to other powers (France, Germany and even America) but only when essential, preferring to build good relationships and strengthen Britain's position. Has ensured EU enlarged to a continent-wide liberal group of nations rather than a franco-german dominated social superstate.
Has bravely and tirelessly pursued a lasting and just peace for all sides of the Northern Ireland conflict.
Believes far too much in state intervention in people's lives, has a tendancy to allow taxes to go too high.
One of the best prime ministers we've had, and probably one of the best world leaders of recent times.

Rather like the others who have bothered to provide a lengthy thought out answer rather than an insult, I think he's undoubtedly a man of conscience. He has clearly acted upon his own beliefs, often at odds with the opinions of party members and other MPs, in an attempt to 'do the right thing'.
Sadly, he and I, or to be more accurate, New Labour and I have different views about what is good for our society and country today.
I suppose I (probably in common with many others) should have studied the manifesto more closely. But I took the 'Labour' label at face value and find that most of the Socialist thinking has been diluted into what I can only think of as Christian Democrat policies.
And so while I feel for him as a Prime Minister coming to the end of his period of tenure, I cannot really celebrate his achievements when I think of how much more could have been accomplished and how much closer to '1984' Britain appears to be.

I am going to give my opinion (and pls remember it's just that - my opinion), as a non - British, living here for more than 5 years.
I feel sorry for him. I think he gets a lot of stick, when he has dedicated 10 yrs of his life to work for Britain - and do nothing else. No-one seems to appreciate what THAT is.
I think we all get tired of our current government, it all goes trough cycles, people wants changes, and history only changes slowly. I think the man has done some good things. People gets sick of leaders when they dont see, year after year, their expectations realised and they want a change of government, so if they are liberal, after a few years, they'll go for conservative, then they'll realise that it really is the same **** and after a few years they blame the government again and want new leaders and change it all again.
But anyway....Tony Blair.....I do like the man. I have respect for any man who wants to serve his country and do the best for it, and gives almost 10 years of his life to do so, and by the end of it, everyone is ungrateful. This man has had no other occupation for years than serving Britain. He is always on call. When something goes wrong, the whole country turns back to him.
Well you can see that I really respect the man, I think he is an honest guy who has done his best, some mistakes of course but hey he's got a bit of pressure doesn't he..?
In general I have great respect for him ;even though I dont agree with getting into Irak's war, but hey, Aznar in Spain took us to war and kissed Bush's *** big time too..and I don't like him...or other like Bush, who are clearly jerks..
If you look at him when he started, I get the feeling that he looked like an enthuiastic young man who really wanted to do the best for Britain.
Now he just looks tired, old and drained, and everyone just wants him to go, no hey, thanks for dedicating 10 years of your life try to make things better. No, people is giving him stick, this is how I see from the outside.
You can't judge someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes...but it's easy to judge when you are comfortably siting in your sofa watching the news.

Deluded.
The trouble is that he has the knack of persuading some people to believe in his delusions in spite of reality staring them in the face.

Tony Blair is a great man who has given his heart and soul to defend an ungrateful nation. He deserves better than the way he has been treated.

Tony Blair is one of the greatest men of our time, and yet so few people see that. They would rather bury their heads in the sand and pretend that terrorism will go away without our help.
