Whenever I'm in ballet i get very frustrated because i feel this is something i cant fix. When i try to stand in the best fifth position i can, my feet roll in, and then when i try to correct this my turn out gets even worse. I dont want to cause an injury because i pushed too far. When i try to turn out it often hurts my knees and hips (I'm not even pushing that much) If anyone knows of something i could do without causing injury that would be great. thanks!

Heres is what you do. Take a can soda and put it in the freezer. Keep it in their long enough to get nice and cold but not tolong to where its gonna bust all over your fridge. Get you a piece of paper towel and put it on the floor and put the can on top of it laying down(dont put can right side up). Roll the bottom of your foot with that cold soda can. Back and Forth Back and forth(can has to still have soda in it and has to be cold or it defeats the purpose). Do this every day for the next two weeks and i guarantee you you will see a difference in the curve of your foot. The better the curve in your foot the easier it is to do all them ballerina poses because notice none of the good ballerinas are flat footed. Good Luck!

You have to practice pulling up through the arches, rather than sitting (relaxing) and letting your feet roll forward. I also have flat feet, and I understand your frustration. It doesn't go away overnight, and you simply have to work on keeping an even weight distribution (of course your center will shift slightly forward or back depending on what step you are executing) and feeling the floor with all your toes, not just your big toes.

Here is an exercise that will help your arches: while you are sitting watching tv, doing homework, or on the computer, exercise your feet. Keep a few marbles on the floor, and practice picking them up and putting them back down with your toes. You will feel the muscles in your arches contract and then relax as you drop the marbles. It's simple, and you can do it any time while your sitting. Also, try to pick up things with your toes instead of your hands in general...as long as it isn't your fork and spoon we're talking about.

Whatever you do, it should not be painful. If your experience pain, you should see a doctor or dance therapist. Permanent injury can result from forcing turnout, letting your feet roll and sickle, and executing any dance step improperly. Be careful, and have good sense. It's your body, and your stuck with it for life, so take care of it!

Perhaps an orthopedist can help.
