well you dont need a visa to travel there. hk is an open city. tourists are allowed to stay there for like 7 days (not sure). hk is very tourist friendly most specially to filipinos coz a lot of em are there. good place to travel for a first timer. plus they have maps and information centers all over the city so im sure you wont have a hard time.

about going to china,, you can take a mere train ride and you can reach shenzhen, china that easily. (not sure of the spelling though)

they have a lot of stuff for bargain there and if you are a fan of shopping im sure you're gonna love it.

look up marco polo hotel. i stayed there twice already.. its not too expensive plus its nice. its just in the middle of the city so its easy to walk around. its right in the harbour city at kowloon island. hotels there are interconnected so if you dont like this one, try somewhere else around the vicinity. anyway, here's their website.

For hongkong, no need a visa but mainland china, you need a visa. For china visa, there is 4 days, 3 days or rush processing. You can stay in Kowloon hotel, Shamrock, Park hotel, BP Int'l hotel, etc. Those hotels i mentioned are budgeted hotels in hongkong. The hongkong package rates for 3nts/4days including airfare, accommodation, breakfast, airport transfer, & half day hongkong city tour is around $350 to $450 per person on twin sharing. If single, around $400 to $550.

HK custom usually give free entry visa to most of the passport up to 7-14 days. You can search and compare the hotel rates in the following sites that suit your budget. I suggest you stay at Mongkok which is more convenient and reasonable hotel rates. If you prefer something luxury, you can always stay at hotels at Tsim Sha Tsui.

In Hongkong they have a YMCA Hotel in Kowloon, it is very nice hotel but very reasonable, accross the road is the famous Esplanade and next to it is the Peninsula Hotel so it is safe.
Regarding documentation you need passport, visa if you are a Filipino passport holder. If you are American passport no need for visa just passport and airticket
