The whole numbers are the counting numbers and 0. The whole numbers are 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ...

This was actually a philosophical question centuries ago (even is today, though few discuss it). The idea was that "nothing" was not possible. The western church (Rome) actually thought it was a heresy to believe in zero and it took a while before zero came to be accepted universally. As for me, I think that if you have Ying and Yang then the exact balance between the two you have...zero...which is actually the ideal...to be totally balanced in life. In Eastern Orthodox Christianity there is a similar concept; that when one totally empties themself, one finds the inner self or light at the nous...the spiritual level of openness to God. Again, some might say that the point of intersection is zero, but it wouldn't be in the context of "nothing" but rather, the balance between the positive and the negative.

Yes, zero is an element of the set of whole numbers. It is not an element of the set of counting numbers. I would search wikipedia to get a good defintion for your teacher.

Zero is a concept, not a number; you can have 3 rows of 4 apples, but to talk of any number of rows of zero apples is meaningless (no apples!).

that is soooo easy yeah it is if it's 0-1 trillion yeah it is but 1 and a half and 2 and a half...... anything with a fraction isn't but all the #'s are.
