My Dad insists that the alter-ego of the Hulk is David Banner, not Bruce Banner. I understand that they changed his name in the old TV series for some reason, but then the film confused me a little by including a David Banner as Bruce's father. 1) was there EVER a David Banner in the comic series, and 2) what is the name of the villain in the Hulk film, and was HE ever in the comic series? 3) Why did they call the Hulk David in the TV series?

Ok your last questrion first becasue I do know the answer unequivocably to that one. At the time when Bill Bixby was going to play the Dr Banner part, it was decided to change the name to David because "Bruce" was not considered "macho" enough by the TV powers that be, even though an Olympic athlete had just won like 7 Gold medals. The athletes name was Bruce Jenner.
The comic series, as far as I can remember never had a David Banner, but I havent read every issue. Bruce's father in the movie is named David, but I cant find any reference to him in the comics. The powers David Banner had in the movie were in the comics tho; a villian named "absorbing man" had them, but he was not Bruce's father.

in the comics, his name is robert bruce banner, he goes by bruce... on the tv series, his name was david bruce banner, he went by david... the reason has already been cited... "bruce" was thought to be synonymous with homosexuality... but he should have been called robert in the show instead of david...

'Raymond' is CORRECT. In the tv series, they changed his name from 'Bruce' to 'David' because 'bruce' was typically associated with the 'homosexual stereotype' of the times. They called Bruce's father David in the new movie as a homage to Bill Bixby's famous take on the character. And the 'real' villian in the movie was the PLOT...lol ;-)
