You cant get faster...no matter what anybody else says about squats and all that..you either have speed or you havent...if anyone says do leg weights o or stuff like that they dunno what there talking about....youve got it or you havent

How old are you, firstly? If 5'9 is about as tall as you're likely to get, you might be a little undersized for a RB - and you're definitely undersized for a FB, so I'm going to assume you're still growing :)

That being said, there's different aspects of speed you can work on.....you can improve your acceleration and burst, by doing high-weight leg exercise and resistance running with parachutes or in a pool to strengthen your muscles and give you more push. You could also work on your agility and footwork with cone and tire drills, and try to develop as a cutback RB in the vein of LT and LJ

Upper body and core strength is also important for backs; it helps you break tackles, stiffarm defenders, push the pile, etc. All those things make RBs more attractive to coaches.

There is an old, and very true saying....."The one thing you can't coach is speed." The either have the natural ability or you don't. There are things that can slightly help your quickness but if you run a 4.8 40, no amount of drills are going to suddenly make you a 4.5 guy

For those that said you cant get faster, either your slow and cant deal with it or you have no idea what youre talking about. I came into high school running a mid 4.8 forty slow I know. By my senior yr I was at a high 4.5, so yes you can get faster. I invested my time and money into the Strength Shoe system.

Strap yourself to a vehicle and have someone steer and pull it around the track until you can do 4 laps with it. Also you can strap a parachute on and run sprints. Do lots of lunges, sprints, squats, basically anything that will strengthen your hammies, quads, calves, etc. Get your legs strong and your upper body strong and you will be Walter Payton in no time.
