If the pop ups appear when you're online, activate your browsers pop up blocker. Go to tools - internet options - block pop ups.
But if they appear on your pc when you're not connected to the net then you have either spyware or adware on your pc. Run Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware SE Personal to get rid of them.

Hi Peter. First of all download the latest version of Internet Explore which is free and has an effective 'anti-phising' tool built in. I also have yahoo pop-up blocker, easily found on yahoo.com . Finally, go to www.downloads.com
type in what you want. Some are free, some charge. But all in all, there's plenty which you can do. FYI AGV is not the best anti-virus software anyway! Good luck.

I find that since I installed IE 7.0 that get really very very few pop ups. I use IE7 with WinXP SP2 and AVG Antivirus (Free Edition). It is also important to run an antispyware program at least once a week. I use 2 > Ad-Aware and MS Windows Defender. That will also help minimize pop ups if spyware doens't have the time to create a profile on you. this results in them not nowing what to market to you, hence fewer pop ups
