HI ,i have a w reg astra with loads of smoke coming out of the exshaust,on oil filler cap there is creamy looking sludge,does it mean the head gasket has gone and how much should i be looking paying.Cheers

I was quoted £700 for mine,unless you are attached to the car or it is in top nick,I wouldn't bother. Sorry if that's bad news!

Auto shops here in US have a flat rate book that gives
the time it should take an auto tech to perform the job
giving you the customer a reasonable estimate before work
is agreed upon.
Also I may add that once inside your engine other problems
can be found driving the final costs of the repairs.

Your description ,would indicate to me eng,overheated.head gaskets for sure and you may have cracked head or warped head,also should you do the work or hire it done,Flush and drain
transaxle 3 times,because the fluid has also been overheated.
I have 92 Lincoln same thing,I did work my self cost about 400
dollars,The aluminum heads have a # torque & a 90degree stretch ;Requires new head bolts.92 lincoln 3.8 eng.

dont know exactly but i paid $500 for my oldsmobile ciera 1996 dont have the car anymore though check with your local mechanic they can give you a good estimate...!

well in australia to get it done properly it heads up towards $1500, however i suppose its differnet around other places... bet u didnt want to hear that
