The colonel is correct. I don't think you could find a used fender at a garage sale for that price. An acoustic bass will be harder to learn at first. but will strengthen your fingers like you could never imagine. Good luck and have fun.

There are some excellent "made in China" imports around at the moment. There is the single pickup Johnson which is a "copy" of the Fender Jazz Bass that comes in at around £115 new, and the Ashton which is a twin pickup Fender lookalike for £130 new. If you want cheaper I suggest you keep an eye open for second hand stuff in Cash Convertors. You can get stuff there from £80 upwards but be careful because they do some Chinese clones too which aren't quite up to it.

I've got a Yamaha RBX 170 which you can get for about £100 on ebay - it's a great guitar, fairly light in comparison with a Fender Precision which is helpful if you're learning (or a girl!)

100 quid!! try argos. you've no chance getting a fender or any other similar top quality guitar for under 400 quid. if your starting off learning get an acoustic first. listen to flea or lemmy or the god of bass himself geddy lee. they dont play cheap bass guitars but i think lemmy has had the same richenbacker since 1970.
