A bit of both.

you can't single out genius as being smart alone. There are different types of ' genius', but the most common one used for genius I suppose would be people with with High I.Q.

Genius that are born (High I.Q. in this case) are usually a bit weird and would find it hard to fit in people with average I.Q.

Of course, you wouldn't expect people that are born genius wouldn't need to learn about everything in life and understand all of it altogether... No matter how high you I.Q. is, you need fundamental understanding of how stuff works in life... If a genius can't communicate (i.e.speak or listen), you wouldn't have labelled him/her as a genius...

A perfect anology for your question would be:
Are leaders born leaders or are they trained to be leaders?

The answer is, again, a bit of both.

As much as we like to believe all people can be leaders, this is not true. Not all have the capability to lead others.

On the other hand, a lot of leaders in companies have went thorugh vigorous leadership trainings, etc.etc. And through experience, they may have the possibilty of possesing leadership...

Everyone's born a 'potential' genius.. and there are many kinds of geniuses, from someone who excels in science or mathematics, to someone good at music, literature, politics, business, whatever.

It all depends on your social and economic conditioning while growing up.

Personally I'm against labeling anyone a genius, I despise the word. Everyone has potential for something or the other, just because a few get branded for doing that, doesn't necessarily make them better.

Not sure why this is in Zoology but here goes.

Geniuses are born and nurtured (hopefully) to their full potential. You must 1st have the capability to be a genius, and then the oportunity as well. For example Motzart if no one gave him a piano?

A good question might also be why do so many geniuses also suffer from mental illness such as Bi-Polar disorder?
