If there are only 3 races, and 50% are Japanese, the the Japanese total is equal to the sum of white + black, which would be 420. Then the total of all races would be 840.

let the total no. of persons be x
japaneese=50%
that means that other part is 50%
but other part is sum of whites and blacks
=70+350=420
japaneese=420
tOTAL people=420+420=840

a. 370+70+50%x=x
420=50%x=> x=840
b. 840:2= 420
