Both of mine were before 12 weeks but I have heard of people having them far later than that, this is due to the waiting times (great nhs service and all that!) you are pregnant if a pregnancy test showed up positive so dont worry about that! its just a bit of a frustrating wait for you im afraid, im sure 16weeks seems ages away if you are very early pregnant but dont worry it will come soon enough, in the mean time if you are bored go to www.huggiesclub.com, you can swap all kinds of baby info with other mums, i just wish id had it when i was pregnant instead of wasting a fortune on magazines that say the same things each issue!!! good luck with everything xxx

are you in the UK? well you have a stupid doctor as they do them well not the doctor personally but a nurse should
you usually get first scan at 12 weeks, but if you didn't know you were pregnant then it takes about a fortnight to get an appointment
then blood tests at 16-17 weeks to check for risk risks of downs syndrome then another scan at 20 weeks which can also determine the sex of baby (but not always the case)
then you usually just see your midwife until the birth

With this my second baby 12 weeks, but with my first I only got one scan at 20weeks which was the norm 3 years ago in my area this was a lifetime, I just worried incase they detected a defect at this late stage as i'd already felt him move.
16 weeks is to late if it is for a nuchual scan, where measure babies neck an indicator of down's as this should be done at 11-13 weeks. Chase this up with your midwife which you should have been allocated via your GP by now (if in UK) goodluck:o)

Home testing kits are pretty good and, anyway, by 16 weeks I would've thought you would know whether or not you were pregnant.
The scan isn't really to check there's a baby, it's to see how the baby is and check for any problems.

I had both of mine between 12-14 weeks, you must know for sure if you are pregnant. Did you not take a home pregnancy test? They don't usually refer you for a scan unless they are sure that you have concieved.

12 weeks first one and then 20 weeks I u can change doctors who do pregnancy tests because thats bad. Have a look at the web or yellow pages for a family clinic because they would give pregnancy tests

I had my first one at what we thought was 5 1/2 weeks (to check my due date)...but the ultrasound technician did not know what she was doing...I went for a second one with a different ultrasound technician and found out that I was 2 weeks further along...I was 10 weeks. I have one scheduled for the 30th of Jan to check anatomy. I will 19 weeks and 3 days along.

1987, I was 12 weeks pregnant at the time. My doctor didn't bother doing a pregnancy test either because she said the home tests were actually more reliable.

Different nhs groups have different procedures for the first scan. i had my first scan at 12 weeks where as a friend who had her baby the day after me who went to a hospital one district away (20 miles) had her first scan at 16 weeks. We then both had a scan at 21 weeks.
so i guess it varies from hospital to hospital.
