I don't think they can actually "fire" you for something you may have said...unless it is a threat of any kind, or a racist remark, or anything that the company would or does think that you will commit an illegal or harmful offense. I would go directly to the Mgr./owner and apologize and explain why you said what you said, and try and resolve the problem with a solution such as offering to publicly apologizing, or going directly to the person whom you offended and apologize. They will like and appreciate the responsibility you are taking.

depends on who you said it to--a co-worker, or the boss? if was sexual or ethnic you could be fired under the federal ethics laws--but hopefully a sincere apology would smooth the situation over--i suggest you resolve the situation ASAP--or this could follow you around foreverer
