How about, "developed more [fully, rapidly, vigorously]"? Developed is more definite than "worked on" and less loaded than exploit. I'm not sure what you meant by "seriously" so suggested some synonyms.

I would say the correct word would be researched instead
of "worked on".

That is fine. Exploit would be wrong.

Worked on is correct. "On the sentence" is not. It ought to be "in the sentence".

Perhaps "marketed" would be a better choice.
