Because they're a baby; they don't understand time, all they understand is their immediate needs, so they'll sleep when they're tired. It can take a while for some babies to get night and day sorted out, but it will happen, I promise :-)

How old is the baby? If he is a newborn you may have to wait a little longer. If the baby is older, get him on a schedule with feedings and naps. Keep the baby up during the day and only let him sleep for naps.

How old is your baby? Maybe your baby has his/her days and nights mixed up. My first son had his days and nights mixed up for about the first week and then he just eventually fell into a rhythm of being awake during the day and asleep at night. If your child doesn't have his/her days and nights mixed up maybe there is something in the childs room that is frightening him/her, maybe a mobile, or a sound from the house or maybe it's too dark or too bright. Good Luck with everything

Infants don't have a conception of time. Most babies are confused, they have been in darkness for almost 10 months, if you think about it. You may try rocking the baby, or letting him/her sleep on you during the day, wake up, feed, and rock again. Most newborn babies sleep the day away.
They just need time to adjust, I know it's difficult, I have 2 of my own, but they do figure it out.
Good Luck!

Days and nights are mixed up. I just went through this with my 2mth old daughter. Babies do this on their own, there is nothing you did wrong. You simply need to try to keep your baby up as much as you can during the day (tickle, undress, bath, squirt with warm water, etc..) and then keep the house quiet and dark as you can and do little to no interaction with him/her at night (other than feedings and diaper changes). It will take about a week to get baby turned around.

Your baby has the days and nights mixed up. Keep your house BRIGHT during the day, tickly babies feet and don't let him sleep all day. Keep him awake, sing, tickle, feed, talk, make noise, etc.

At night keep it VERY quiet. Keep is VERY dark. Feed when neccessary, change when necessary and put baby RIGHT BACK TO BED. No talking or snuggles.

For newborn that's normal.babies have to adjust to nite or day, most babies like the day, they feel scared at nites, mine does the same thing, try putting baby to sleep on the side or feed formula,if breastfeeding before you put her to sleep.

Hello there.
I agree with the advice that you have gotten with one exception. NEVER feed your baby or put her back to bed wihtout lots of cuddles and snuggles! Babies grow up SO fast and your dear little one needs your loving touch every bit as much as she needs your milk and a dry diaper.....maybe even more!

that is a good question. My oldest under no circumstances once took a snooze in her own mattress yet slept nicely there at evening. i ended up only letting her sleep in my hands or on my mattress (surrounded by using pillows, of direction.)
